According to Reader’s Digest:
Sometimes it is personal: We get to know you through what you buy and what you discard due to boredom, bad karma, or your metabolic ups and downs. “I’m growing old with some of my customers,” says Miller of Designer Renaissance. “When they’re dating they get all these hottie clothes, then they get married and you don’t see them for a while, then in their later 30s their sizes start changing every year, so I get them again. We discuss medical problems, emotional problems, who the good divorce lawyers are. This job’s a blast.”
Is this really the typical pattern? How sad.

According to Mail Online:
A teenager who sold her virginity online for £8,800… Alina Percea, 18, auctioned her virginity on a website… She was inspired to auction herself on a German erotic website after reading how American woman Natalie Dylan, 22, from San Diego, had put her virginity up for sale for £2.5million.
Why the price differential? What hope is left for an aspiring prostitute to take the easy road to wealth?

According to the New York Times:
The news is troubling, but it’s also misleading. While some young people are clearly engaging in risky sexual behavior, a vast majority are not. The reality is that in many ways, today’s teenagers are more conservative about sex than previous generations.
So perhaps the age old reflex to think that “kids these days” are “worse” than the previous generation is just predujice (and jealousy) against youth.

According to Mint.com, men spend their money on eating out, electronics, sports tickets, drinking, cars, memberships, and online dating. Women spend their money on beauty products, organic food, women’s energy bars, the lottery, pets, and clothing.
How stereotypical! Perhaps the only surprises are online dating for men and the lottery for women.

According to Alternet
With staff jobs evaporating and former nine-to-fivers cobbling together incomes through scattered side projects, freelancing as a dominatrix — or “pro-domme,” as industry types prefer to call it — has become a plausible gig option. As a former call girl, I know plenty of people in the industry, and I recently spoke to several who have started doing kink work to supplement their incomes. (I’ve changed their names to protect their privacy.) They agree: The sector is poised for expansion as more unemployed and underemployed women begin looking for extra cash.
What both the author and the women she’s writing about don’t realize is that the law of supply & demand is working against them. There’s a very small amount of people willing to pay a pro-domme, and as the number of pro-dommes increase, the less attractive & experienced ones will have to lower their rates in order to develop/maintain a book of business.
Of course this ignores the more ephemeral questions such as:
- Is this job healthy to take?
- How do I feel about taking a job technically classified as prostitution in California?
- How do I feel about catering to sexual fetishes for patrons to which I have no emotional or sexual interest?
- How will this impact my self-esteem?
- What happens if my moonlighting is discovered by mainstream society?
Perhaps instead they might want to consider becoming less materialistic and being satisfied with a lower standard of living.
